NEVADOS DE CHILLAN - ANTUCO - VILLARICA - LLAIMA - LONQUIMAY - MOCHO-CHOSHUENCO - OSORNO
Explore the wild volcanoes of the Bio-Bio, Araucania, Rios and Lagos regions in Chile on skis.
In the middle of the magnificent Araucarias forests, endemic trees that inhabit the foot of volcanoes, small family ski resorts allow easy and quick access to snow hills. A positive vertical drop of around 1,300 meters per day will enable us to climb 5 or 6 of these volcanoes, depending on weather conditions and the group’s enthusiasm.
Quality spring snow generally covers the slopes of volcanoes and there can also be good powder snow depending on weather conditions at the time. Skiing on a volcano is characterized by relatively steep slopes at the top, getting more gentle as you come closer to the bottom. The conical shape of the volcanoes makes it easy to optimize downhill skiing by turning with the sun to always find super quality snow.

Frequently asked questions
The 9V guides use and recommend touring skis from 80 mm to 95 mm wide, depending on your size. Fitted with touring pin bindings, preferably with ski stops, these skis are light enough for climbing with skins on, and a joy to ski down. We recommend ski touring boots with 3 or 4 hooks and 60° of travel.
If you have an avalanche device, we advise you to bring it with you. If it’s an old avalanch beacon, this will be an opportunity to check that it works well and practice with it… You may want to buy a new one afterwards. If it is brand new, it is important to use it as often as possible to familiarize yourself with how it works. Only regular training allows you to be effective when needed! If you do not have a avalanche beacon, please let us know on the registration form and we will provide it to you (depending on the destination).
SUIT CASE AND SKI BAG
As we travel by plane, boat, car or minivan, space is often limited. That’s why it’s best to keep your luggage small and easy to carry. We advise you to travel with a soft bag (duffel bag style) with wheels, a soft ski bbag without wheels + a separate ski boot bag (always part of your sport equipment bundle).
BACKPACK (25 / 35 liters with carrying strap for skis) for the day’s belongings, you will put:
– warm down jacket in your backpack,
– ski goggles with with flat light lens
– neck warmer against wind, cold, powder and sun,
– high-protection sun cream for face and lips,
– spare glove if you often fall, or mittens if you’re sensitive of the cold,
– insulated bottle if it’s cold or CamelBag if it’s mild,
– dried fruit, chocolate, energy bars,
– space blanket, shovel and probe.
EQUIPMENT
You will spend a lot more time in ski gear than in après-ski gear.
At any time of the winter season, it can be sunny and mild, or it can be extremely cold, snowy or rainy.
Pack weather-appropriate clothing: During a snowstorm, skiing in the forest is fantastic. Plan an additional item of clothing to take in your backpack during the day; it will allow you to adapt to any temperature changes. The temperature varies with altitude, on the order of 10 °C per 1000 meters. Therefore, the temperature difference between the valley and the summit can vary by 20 °C or more with the effect of the wind.
If you are properly equipped you will enjoy skiing whatever the weather. We ski in all weathers conditiions.
